The 5-Second Rule

The 5-Second Rule

It’s easy for business owners to think about results instead of the process.

Success is built on many small decisions made and acted upon over and over again.

Many of those decisions need to be made within five seconds.

If the decision is not made within that short timeframe, your brain will kill the thought.

This lack of action if repeated will become habitual and cause you to not act when you should.

For example, let’s say you see someone in public that maybe you met once very briefly. You don’t know them well at all despite the brief earlier meeting. You really should take the initiative and follow-up with them by re-introducing yourself. So you quickly begin a debate in your head about whether or not you should do it. Perhaps, you think to yourself, this person really wasn’t impressed with you the first time you had met.

At least that is what you quickly tell yourself. So if you decide to go speak with them, it may turn awkward, and you’ll feel embarrassed.

Suddenly, five seconds has elapsed.

And subsequently, you decide to not engage with that person.

Those types of decisions repeated over and over again will kill your business.

Instead, count down 5-4-3-2-1 and then GO to take action!
